Our Church Family Values

Q: Why Are We Focusing On Values?

We recognize that God has brought us into a new season of life together as Heartland Fellowship. In our 14 years together, we have been through seasons of excitement, fruitfulness, hard work, along with seasons of pain and despair. Even though Heartland has been through a lot, we are still Heartland. We have a unique call as a church and as God’s people. We have values that are very important to all of us.

Council has seen the need to re-look at our values as a church. In the past year, Council has been working on putting together a draft list of values that they hope the people of Heartland would discuss, sharpen, improve and further clarify. Values that are uniquely Heartland that have continuity from the past yet reflects who we are today. Council has been working behind the scenes to bring these draft statements of values hoping that we can clarify them together.

Council began this process last summer with the hope of creating some church wide ministry goals. They went on a retreat in the fall of 2007 and quickly realized that Heartland is still the same Heartland yet different. They saw that even though there is no longer the primary emphasis on care groups, many of the values from the beginning still exist within the hearts and minds of Heartlanders and have been lived out in new and unexpected ways.

Council realizes that we need to clarify our values as a church before we begin to talk about future goals and projects. Why? Because values influence our actions. Values move us towards goals and guides our actions.
